What is a social justice issue that you’re passionate about? The policies that restrict access to adequate education and legal aid.

Describe your Civic Engagement involvement at Penn. Throughout my time at Penn, I’ve been involved with many incredible organizations that provide resources to the community. Freshman year, I interned at HIAS Pennsylvania, a refugee resettlement agency. The following summer, I worked with NextGen America to register voters in Philadelphia. Currently, I work at the Public Interest Law Center, which works to secure resources for low-income communities in Philadelphia. I am also continuing my work as a tutor with the West Philadelphia Tutoring Project.

What is a social justice issue that you’re passionate about? Environmental injustice and conservation.

Describe your Civic Engagement involvement at Penn. I am involved in Alpha Phi Omega, a service fraternity, which opens doors to various volunteering opportunities. I also took an Academically Based Community Service course, which allowed me to volunteer my knowledge and teach with a big group and be able to get academic feedback regarding my performance.

What is a social justice issue that you’re passionate about? Immigration, environmentalism, racial/economic inequality.

Describe your Civic Engagement involvement at Penn. I volunteered at Puentes de Salud with Lanzado Lideres and was a Latinx Political History Intern at the National Musuem of American History.

What is a social justice issue that you’re passionate about? I am involved with helping provide quality education in Philadelphia.

Describe your Civic Engagement involvement at Penn. Over the years I have been involved with a number of tutoring programs including the Riepe Mentors Program, IMPAC (Impactful Mentorship at Penn for Adopted Children), and Puentes de Salud: Early Childhood Program. At the moment, I am working with the Penn Catholic Newman Center to re-engage a culture of service and to promote tutoring at West Catholic High Preparatory High School and Christ in the City, a homeless ministry program.

Danielle Miles-Langaigne

What is a social justice issue that you’re passionate about? Intersectionality as a framework for addressing multiple forms of oppression.

Describe your Civic Engagement involvement at Penn. I dedicate my Saturdays on campus to mentoring middle and high-school students through Ase Academy, a program dedicated to cultural pedagogy and academic improvement through the Makuu Cultural Center. During the Fall 2019 semester, I will be studying abroad in Sydney, Australia at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). I previously interned for Councilwoman Helen Gym’s Office, and also worked as a Program Assistant at the Civic House.

What is a social justice issue that you’re passionate about? Intersectional feminism and reproductive ju
stice.

Describe your Civic Engagement involvement at Penn. During my first two years at Penn, I volunteered with Why Not Prosper, an organization founded by a formerly incarcerated woman to support other formerly incarcerated women in their re-entry efforts. Recently, I was named the Project Coordinator of the From Cell to Home Project, a program that assists incarcerated women serving life sentences apply for commutation. I also just completed an internship at the Black Mamas Matter Alliance, whose work addresses Black maternal health disparities.

What is a social justice issue that you’re passionate about? Climate justice for the developing world.

Describe your Civic Engagement involvement at Penn. I worked at Moder Patschala for my freshman year and Francophone Community Partnerships my sophomore spring. I am still in the process of figuring out what I would like to do my junior year and hope to continue it my senior year. I did an internship in Rabat Morocco through Penn at a refugee resettlement center and think I therefore might try to work at NSC.
