MiaChalhoub_resize.jpg Mia Chalhoub is a juniorĀ from London, Kentucky, studying Classical Studies, Legal Studies & American History, Bioethics and French. She is interning for the year at Philadelphia Legal Assistance, where she is able to help low income residents of Philadelphia receive the legal aid they need in all matters of family law. On campus, she is a member of PennSID, chair of the Lebanese Club @ Penn, and plays intramural volleyball. She loves baking, continuously re-reading Pride & Prejudice, and doing anything that gets her in the great outdoors.
AashnaDesai_resize.jpg Aashna Desai is a senior in the Huntsman Program for International Studies and Business, for which her area of study is South Asia. She is concentrating in Finance in Wharton and pursuing a minor in Mathematics. Aashna is interning at the Nationalities Service Center through Civic House, where she gets the chance to work with refugees living in Philadelphia and help out in an urban garden. She is originally from Charlotte, NC. In her free time, she likes to read, travel, sip on green tea, and be in the sun.
Sarah Engell is studying History and Political Science. On campus she is a board member of Women’s Political League and Penn Model Congress and a research fellow for the Penn Humanities Forum and the Penn Program on Democracy, Citizenship, and Constitutionalism. This year she is excitedly working as a policy intern for the Mayor’s Office of Community Empowerment and Opportunity where she helps to connect Philadelphians with the city’s public programs and services. In her free time she enjoys baking and running.

She is majoring in Urban Studies and Linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania and will be pursuing a master’s degree in teaching ESL starting next year. She loves cooking and sharing meals with friends, and dreams of one day being responsible enough to own a pet on her own.
AkailahJennings_crop.jpg Akailah Jennings is a senior in the College majoring in Political Science and minoring in Urban Education Policy. This year she is working with Public Citizens for Children and Youth as an Education Policy Intern. When she is not in Center City interning or Ucity taking classes, she is tutoring and mentoring in Southwest and West Philadelphia public schools. She is heavily involved in two other Civic House groups, Community School Student Partnerships and Alpha Phi Omega. Her perfect evenings include drinking bubble tea, eating takoyaki and watching Netflix. She hopes to continue working in the education realm post-graduation.
JoshuaOSullivan.png Joshua O’Sullivan is a senior in the College from Fort Macleod, Alberta, Canada (it’s above Montana). His major is Political Science with a concentration in Social Justice and Public Policy. In conjunction with Civic House, Josh is an intern at Bread and Roses Community Fund, a gathering of activists supporting social justice by raising and distributing funds, and a Civic House Representative on the Committee on Manufacturer Responsibility.

She is currently interning at Art-Reach, a non-profit that provides access to arts and culture to frequently underserved low-income and disability communities. At Penn, she is a member of Rodin House Council, plays on Venus, the women’s ultimate team, and is a site-leader for Alternate Spring Break. She is happiest sitting on her living room floor in her froggy onsie eating nuts and chocolate.
